Howard "The Professor" Lederer (born October 30, 1964 in Concord , New Hampshire ) is a professional American poker player . He is two-time bracelet winner of the World Series of Poker and won twice the Main Event of the World Poker Tour , where he 2002/03 as Player of the Year award. His sister is the poker player Annie Duke .

Personal

His father, Richard Lederer, taught at St. Paul's School in New Hampshire. Lederer, a young chess talent , moved to the High School of New York City and enrolled at Columbia University one. New York City is known for its chess clubs, it was in one of these clubs that he discovered poker and eventually played at the Mayfair Club with many players known today, such as Erik Seidel and Dan Harrington . In 1994 he moved to Las Vegas , where he earned recognition.

He got his nickname The Professor because of his demeanor, his analytical style and his many successes. He released the introductory video Secrets of No Limit Hold'em and started the Howard Lederer Poker Fantasy Camp . He was a co- host for a poker show at FOX . His sister Katy Lederer wrote a book, Poker Face: A Girlhood Among Gamblers , about the Lederer family.

Poker career

Lederer is known for being focused and calm at the poker table, but when Daniel Negreanu made inappropriate comments about his sister Annie in 2000 , he publicly criticized him. Also at the World Poker Tour Grand Prix de Paris in 2003, he refused to shake hands with Tony G when he knocked him out of the tournament.

Its revenue through official live poker tournaments are just under 6.5 million US dollars . He won a total of two bracelets at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas and two titles at the World Poker Tour . He also won the A $ 100,000 Challenge at the 2008 Aussie Millions Poker Championship in Melbourne .

Lederer is a vegetarian , which once earned him $ 10,000 while eating a cheeseburger . He became a vegetarian after undergoing stomach surgery to lose weight. One of his nicknames was "bubba" (which Doyle Brunson gave him), he was shortened to "bub" when he lost weight.

Lederer was part of the design team for the online poker platform Full Tilt Poker . In 2011, the United States Department of Justice closed the site and brought charges of bank fraud and illegal gambling. In December 2012, the charges against Lederer were dropped in the course of a settlement. Lederer has not played any tournaments since January 2011. In the summer of 2016 he made his comeback and took part in the World Series of Poker 2016 . A few weeks earlier, he publicly apologized for his mismanagement at Full Tilt Poker .

He lives in Las Vegas with his wife and son .
