Dan "Action Dan" Harrington (born December 6, 1945 in Cambridge , Massachusetts ) is an American poker player . He won the World Poker Championship in 1995 .

As part of the 50th edition of the World Series of Poker , Harrington was named one of the 50 best players in poker history in June 2019 .

Personal

Harrington studied at Suffolk University and MIT . The backgammon champion and US chess master (he won the Massachusetts state championship in 1971, but is no longer active in chess) then worked as a bankruptcy executor until he started playing poker in the early 1980s.

Poker career

Career

The most successful year for the very conservative Harrington was 1995, when he achieved his greatest success - winning the Main Event of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas - for which Harrington collected a total of one million US dollars . That same year he also won the $ 2,500 No Limit Hold'em of the WSOP as well as a tournament in the variant Seven Card Stud at the European Poker Open in London . Harrington sat at the final table of the WSOP main tournament three more times: 1987 (6th place), 2003 (3rd) and 2004 (4th).

Harrington won his first World Poker Tour (WPT) title in August 2007. He won the Legends of Poker in Los Angeles and received more than $ 1.6 million in prize money, the highest of his poker career. In 2005 he finished second behind Minh Ly at the Hotel Bellagio in Las Vegas in the North American Poker Championship of the WPT, which was paid for around $ 620,000.

In his career to date, Harrington has earned more than $ 6.5 million in live prize money.
