Dave "Devilfish" Ulliott (born April 4, 1954 in Hull ; † April 6, 2015 ) was a British poker player from England . Before turning pro, Ulliott was part of the Huller underworld .

At the poker table, he was known to wear orange sunglasses and brass knuckles with the words Devil and Fish engraved on them. With prize money of over $ 6.2 million and a bracelet , he was one of the most successful English poker players.

The early years and criminal activity

Dave Ulliott was born in 1954 to Stanley Ulliott, who served as a paratrooper in World War II , and his wife Joyce (née Jefferson) in Hull and grew up in a working class settlement .

He was briefly a member of a music band and left school without a degree at the age of 15 to work as a trophy maker. After visiting a bookmaker and winning the first bet with the payout 50: 1, he started betting on horses . Eventually he lost his job after spending an afternoon at the racecourse.

After he was hired by a team of safecrackers, he was caught by the police; several prison terms followed.

Poker career

From a young age he played poker with his parents. In the 1990s he met Gary Whitaker and soon had his first financial success.

It is reported that Ulliott often took a gun with him when playing private games as he often played in dangerous areas.
