John Hennigan (born August 10, 1970 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is a professional American poker player . He is six-time bracelet winner of the World Series of Poker and once won the Main Event of the World Poker Tour . As part of the 50th edition of the World Series of Poker , Hennigan was named as one of the 50 best players in poker history in June 2019 .
Poker career
Career
Hennigan's first exclamation mark in the professional poker circuit came in 1999 when he finished 19th at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) main event in Las Vegas . In April 2002 , he reached two final tables of the WSOP. First, Hennigan finished seventh in a tournament of the Seven Card Stud variant . Two days later he won his first bracelet in the $ 2,000 HORSE He won 117,320 US dollars after the final table, among others, Men Nguyen and Phil Ivey had left behind. In late 2002, Hennigan managed another triumph by winning the title at the United States Poker Championships . He secured $ 216,000 in heads-up against Erik Seidel and the title of American champion. The following year Hennigan was fifth in this tournament. At the 2004 WSOP , he won his second WSOP bracelet in $ 5,000 Limit Hold'em . At the final table his toughest opponents were James McManus , David Chiu and TJ Cloutier . In 2007 Hennigan won the Main Event on the World Poker Tour . In Atlantic City , he left 570 players behind and won more than $ 1.6 million in prize money. Daniel Negreanu and Gavin Smith stated in an interview that Hennigan was the best player they had ever faced. At the 2014 WSOP , Hennigan won the 50,000 Poker Player's Championship , making it one of the most prestigious tournaments ever. This earned him his third bracelet and more than $ 1.5 million in prize money. At the end of June 2016 , he prevailed in the 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball (Limit) Championship and received his fourth bracelet. Hennigan won his fifth bracelet at the 2018 WSOP in the mixed variant HORSE. Three days after this success, he finished second behind Michael Mizrachi in the Poker Player's Championship for around 765,000 dollars. In mid-July 2018, Hennigan was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame . At the 2019 WSOP , Hennigan won the Seven Card Stud Championship and received his sixth bracelet and a prize of nearly $ 250,000.
In total, Hennigan has earned almost $ 8.5 million with poker in live tournaments. Hennigan was nicknamed Johnny World because he was willing to bet on any thing in the world. Aside from poker, he's a well-respected pool player .
