Jack Binion (born February 21, 1937 in Dallas , Texas ) is an American casino owner . He is the son of casino tycoon Benny Binion , for whom he worked at Binion's Horseshoe in Las Vegas , and the brother of Ted Binion .

Life

Jack Binion became chairman of Horseshoe in 1963 at the age of 26.

He became famous when he hosted the first World Series of Poker at Horseshoe in 1970 . The World Series of Poker soon became the largest poker tournament series in the world.

In 1998 Jack Binion sold his shares in Binion's Horseshoe to his sister, Becky Behnen . He only kept one percent of the casino stake so he could keep his Nevada Gaming License. Binion also got the rights to Horseshoe as a brand outside of Nevada.

Binion then founded the Horseshoe Gaming Holding Corporation , which developed and managed various ship casinos under the Horseshoe name. He promoted the casinos for Harrah's Entertainment after selling the company there in 2004.

While at Horseshoe Gaming, Jack Binion initiated the World Poker Open , which is one of the largest tournaments winning players for the World Series of Poker.

In 2005 Jack Binion was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame .

Binion became Chairman of Wynn International in July 2006 . In that position, he opened Wynn Macau , a large casino in Macau, on September 5, 2006 .
