Johnson "John" Juanda (born July 8, 1971 in Medan , Indonesia ) is a professional American poker player .
Juanda has earned more than $ 25 million in live poker tournaments and is listed as the most successful Indonesian poker player in the Hendon Mob Poker Database . He is a five-time bracelet winner of the World Series of Poker and has won the main event of the European Poker Tour once . As part of the 50th edition of the World Series of Poker , Juanda was named as one of the 50 best players in poker history in June 2019 .
Personal
Juanda grew up in Indonesia and moved to Oklahoma in the United States in 1990 . In high school he was a good sprinter over 200 meters and an endurance runner over 5,000 meters . Juanda received a Masters of Business Administration from Seattle University . During his student days he made some money as a Bible seller . He started his poker career in 1997 and currently lives in Marina del Rey . In 2006 he starred in the crime film All In - Pokerface and played himself.
Poker career
Career
Juanda won five World Series of Poker tournaments and won the 2001 Jack Binion World Poker Open . In November 2005, he won $ 500,000 in the Monte Carlo Millions : he won the Consolation event, finished sixth in the main event and second in the FullTiltPoker.Net event. In January 2006, Juanda beat Barry Greenstein , Tony Bloom and Phil Ivey , among others , and won a million Australian dollars in the Speed Poker event of the Aussie Millions Poker Championship . In early October 2008 Juanda secured the title at the Main Event of the World Series of Poker Europe in London . At the longest final table in WSOP history (484 hands played) he prevailed heads-up against the Russian Stanislaw Alechin and won the equivalent of around 1.5 million US dollars . At the end of August 2015, Juanda won the main event of the European Poker Tour in Barcelona with a prize money of over one million euros . In mid-October 2017, he won the main event of the Triton Super High Roller Series in Macau and received the equivalent of almost three million dollars.
Juanda was a member of Full Tilt Poker's Team Full Tilt . Juanda played in the second season of High Stakes Poker and closed the cash game with a profit.
