Olivia Fleur "Liv" Boeree (born July 18, 1984 in Maidstone , Kent ) is a British poker player , television presenter and model .

Boeree has made nearly $ 4 million in live poker tournaments and is one of the most popular poker players in the world. She ranks seventh among the most successful women in terms of tournament prize money . Boeree won the Main Event of the European Poker Tour in 2010 and a bracelet at the World Series of Poker in 2017 .

Personal

Boeree studied astrophysics at the University of Manchester and later moved to London to do poker shows on television . In 2010 it graced the cover of Maxim in the spring issue . Boeree was in a relationship with poker player Kevin MacPhee and has had a relationship with Russian poker pro Igor Kurganov since March 2014 . Together with him and the German poker player Philipp Gruissem , she founded the charity project Raising for Effective Giving, which is based on the principles of effective altruism , in early July 2014 . The project is mainly active in the poker community and collects donations for highly effective charity organizations.

Boeree has participated in prestigious live tournaments since 2007 . She was on the Absolute / Ultimate Bet Poker team until August 2010 . From September 2010 to November 2019 she was one with the nickname Liv Boeree the Team PokerStars on.

In June 2008 Boeree was successful for the first time at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and cashed in tournaments in the variants Pot Limit Hold'em and Limit / No Limit Hold'em . In mid-April 2010 she became the third woman to win the Main Event of the European Poker Tour (EPT). For this she prevailed against 1239 other players in Sanremo and secured a prize of 1.25 million euros . At an EPT side event in London in early October 2010, the British woman finished second and received over £ 50,000 . In mid-January 2014, she finished second at the UK & Ireland Poker Tour Main Event in Edinburgh, endowed with almost £ 60,000. At the end of August 2015, Boeree reached the final table at the EPT high roller event in Barcelona and finished the tournament in third place for just under 400,000 euros in prize money. At the 2016 WSOP , she finished 528th out of 6,737 participants in the main event and received more than $ 20,000 in prize money. In June 2017 , Boeree and her partner Igor Kurganow won the Tag Team Championship of the WSOP and with it their first bracelet as well as joint prize money of around 270,000 US dollars. The couple donated half of this prize money to Raising for Effective Giving . At the end of August 2017, Boeree won an event on the television format Poker After Dark with a prize of 150,000 US dollars.

In 2010, 2014 and 2015, Boeree was named the best female European poker player at the European Poker Awards , based on her scores on the Global Poker Index in those years . From April to November 2016 she played as team manager for the London Royals in the Global Poker League and made it through to the playoffs with her team.
