Roberto Claudio Romanello (* 1976 in Italy ) is a professional British poker player from Wales . He won a bracelet at the World Series of Poker , the Main Event of the World Poker Tour and the Main Event of the European Poker Tour , making him one of nine poker players who have completed the so-called Triple Crown .

Romanello attended Penyrheol Comprehensive School in Swansea , where he still lives today.
Poker career
Romanello joined poker in 2005 after being forced to stay at home due to a three month injury sustained while playing football . He started playing at the local casino and building a bankroll. Romanello is sponsored by the online poker platform partypoker and plays there under the nickname WelshWizard . Since 2006 he has been taking part in renowned live tournaments.
Romanello was successful for the first time at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas at the beginning of August 2006 and finished 312nd in the main event for around 40,000 US dollars in prize money. In mid-February 2010 he came to the final table at the main event of the European Poker Tour (EPT) in Copenhagen and finished the tournament in sixth place for a purse of around 100,000 US dollars. In December 2010, Romanello won the EPT Main Event in Prague with a prize money of 640,000 euros . At the beginning of April 2011 he was also victorious in the main event of the World Poker Tour (WPT) and won the tournament in Bratislava . For this he prevailed against 197 other players and received around 140,000 euros. In the WSOP 2016 Romanello came at a tournament in the variant No-Limit Hold'em at the final table, finishing in third place for just under $ 150,000 in prize money. In mid-November 2018 he won the high roller of the partypoker Caribbean Poker Party in Nassau , Bahamas, and received a prize of 450,000 US dollars. At the main event of partypoker Millions Europe in King's Resort in Rozvadov , Romanello took sixth place in mid-August 2019, endowed with 170,000 euros. In July 2020, he prevailed in a tournament of the World Series of Poker Online played on GGPoker due to the COVID-19 pandemic and received over 215,000 US dollars and a bracelet . With his win, Romanello became the ninth player to secure tournament titles in all three major tournament series WSOP, WPT and EPT. This achievement is known as the Triple Crown .
In total, Romanello has earned more than $ 4 million in live poker tournaments, making it the most successful Welsh poker player .
