Michael "Mike" Watson (born April 19, 1984 in St. John's , Newfoundland ) is a professional Canadian poker player .

Watson graduated from the University of Waterloo with a degree in mathematics . He lives in Toronto .

Poker career

Career

Watson started playing poker in 2005 and lists Pot Limit Omaha as his favorite variant . He has been playing online since July 2006 . He uses the nickname SirWatts at PokerStars , Full Tilt Poker , partypoker and 888poker and plays at GGPoker as TightDickPlaya . In addition, he uses his real name at Natural8 . His online tournament earnings are more than 6 million US dollars , with the majority of more than 4 million US dollars at PokerStars was recovered. There he won a tournament of the World Championship of Online Poker in 2016 and 2018 as well as a total of 5 events of the Spring Championship of Online Poker . In 2020 he was temporarily in sixth place in the PocketFives ranking, which lists the most successful online poker tournament players worldwide. Since 2006, Watson has also participated in prestigious live tournaments .

In June 2007 , Watson was successful for the first time at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and placed five times in the money. At the end of February, he finished tenth at the World Poker Tour (WPT) main event in Los Angeles and received more than $ 60,000 in prize money. In mid-July 2008, Watson won the WPT Main Event at the Bellagio Hotel and secured a prize money of over 1.6 million US dollars, his highest prize money to date. At the beginning of October 2008 he finished third at the high roller event of the European Poker Tour (EPT) in London for 241,000 British pounds , at that time the equivalent of around 440,000 US dollars. In October 2011 , Watson took second place at a shootout event of the World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) played in Cannes and received more than 110,000 euros in prize money. A week later he won a Six Max Turbo in the same place with a prize of 104,400 euros, but no bracelet was awarded. In August 2012, Watson reached the final table of the EPT Super High Roller in Barcelona and finished third for around 400,000 euros. At the beginning of October 2012, he won the € 50,000 Majestic Roller in Cannes and received € 1 million in prize money. The tournament was played as part of the 2012 WSOPE , but was not part of the official tournament schedule and was therefore not a bracelet event. In January 2013, Watson finished third in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventures (PCA) high roller in the Bahamas for more than $ 450,000. In mid-May 2013, he also reached the final table at the EPT Super High Roller in Monte-Carlo and came in seventh for just under 220,000 euros in prize money. At the 2014 WSOP , Watson finished second behind Jared Jaffee in a mixed-max event and received just under $ 250,000 in prize money. At the beginning of May 2015, Watson finished second behind Mustapha Kanit at the super high roller event of the EPT Monte-Carlo and secured prize money of 672,300 euros. In January 2016, Watson won the PCA Main Event on the European Poker Tour . For this he prevailed against 927 other players and received a prize of just under 730,000 US dollars. At the end of January 2017, he finished second behind Nick Petrangelo in the A $ 100,000 Challenge of the Aussie Millions Poker Championship in Melbourne , which was paid for with just under 530,000 Australian dollars . In October 2017, Watson played at the Triton Super High Roller Series in Macau and cashed in at both the Six Max and the main event , which earned him prize money of the equivalent of just under $ 850,000. At the beginning of November 2019 he reached the final table at the WPT Main Event in Kahnawake and finished fourth, endowed with 180,000 Canadian dollars .
