Roland "The Edge" De Wolfe (also de Wolfe ; born November 30, 1979 in London ) is a former professional British poker player from England . He won a bracelet at the World Series of Poker , the Main Event of the World Poker Tour and the Main Event of the European Poker Tour , making him one of nine poker players who have completed the so-called Triple Crown .
Career
De Wolfe comes from a family of gamblers and played billiards and poker for money at an early age . His path as a writer for the poker magazine Inside Edge and his love of gaming led him into the world of poker tournaments . De Wolfe attended Birmingham University and became a professional poker player at the age of 26.
His first tournament success he achieved in September 2004 during the Gutshot Poker Festival in London and in July 2005 , than a in which he variant No Limit Hold'em being played tournament of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino came into the prize ranks in Las Vegas . In the summer of 2005, he won the Main Event of the World Poker Tour . In Paris he defeated Juha Helppi in the heads-up and won the Grand Prix de Paris , together with a prize money of 480,000 euros . A year later, De Wolfe played the WPT Main Event at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas. He finished third in the so-called Five Star World Poker Classic and won more than one million US dollars in prize money. In October 2006 he won the Main Event of the European Poker Tour (EPT) in Dublin and secured the main prize of over 550,000 euros. This made De Wolfe the first poker player to win a WPT and EPT main event. He was named European Player of the Year at the European Poker Awards 2006 . At the 2009 WSOP , De Wolfe won an event in Pot Limit Omaha Hi-Lo and received a bracelet and almost $ 250,000 in prize money. With this victory he became the second player after Gavin Griffin to secure tournament titles in all three major tournament series WSOP, WPT and EPT. This feat is known as the Triple Crown and has now been achieved by nine poker players. At the end of September 2010, De Wolfe finished fourth at the main event of the World Series of Poker Europe in London, which was worth around 430,000 US dollars. His last live cash placement to date was eighth in December 2010 at the Asia Pacific Poker Tour Main Event in Sydney .
In total, De Wolfe has earned more than $ 5 million in poker in live tournaments. He was one of the pros at the online poker room Full Tilt Poker . De Wolfe was known at the table for his extremely aggressive and loose style of play.
