Juha Ilmari Helppi (born March 4, 1977 in Turku ) is a professional Finnish poker player .

Helppi has earned almost 8 million US dollars with poker in live tournaments, making it the second most successful Finnish poker player after Patrik Antonius . He is a two-time bracelet winner of the World Series of Poker and won the Main Event of the World Poker Tour and the High Roller of the European Poker Tour .

Personal

Helppi played the trading card game Magic: The Gathering . He was also a member of the Finnish national paintball team. Before starting his poker career, Helppi worked as a croupier . He has one son and lives in Helsinki .

Career

Helppi has been taking part in renowned live tournaments since 2001 .

In mid-October 2002, Helppi won the Main Event of the World Poker Tour (WPT) in Palm Beach , Aruba, and received a prize of 50,000 US dollars . In April 2003 he was successful for the first time at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Binion's Horseshoe in Las Vegas and came in the money in two tournaments of the Texas Hold'em variant . At the Monte Carlo Millions in November 2004, Helppi took second place, endowed with 200,000 US dollars. At the end of July 2005 he also finished second at the WPT Main Event in Paris and received over 250,000 euros . In the meantime the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino played out WSOP 2006 he reached again a second place and a prize secured of around 330,000 US dollars. In March 2007 the Finn won the first edition of the PartyPoker.com Premier League , for which he received a total of more than 150,000 US dollars. At the European Poker Tour (EPT) in Deauville , Helppi won the High Roller in January 2009 with a prize money of 192,000 euros. At the EPT High Roller in late November 2010 in Barcelona , early May 2011 in Madrid and in mid-December 2012 in Prague , he was again at the final table and secured prize money of more than 430,000 euros. Also in Prague in December 2014, Helppi took fourth place at the EPT Super High Roller , worth around 270,000 euros. At the 2015 WSOP , he finished fifth in the Pot Limit Omaha High Roller for nearly $ 250,000. At the end of October 2015, he finished the EPT High Roller in Malta in second place for more than 350,000 euros. At the EPT Super High Roller in Prague he finished third in mid-December 2016, which was awarded over 340,000 euros. In the WSOP 2019 , the Finn won a bracelet at the World Championship of variant Limit Hold'em and received a prize money of over $ 300,000. In July 2020, he prevailed in a tournament of the World Series of Poker Online played out due to the COVID-19 pandemic and received around 290,000 US dollars and his second bracelet .
