Griffin Benger (* 27. April 1985 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a former Canadian E-athlete and current professional poker player .

Career

Counter-Strike

Benger played in the early 2000s professionally the tactical shooter Counter-Strike and was under the nickname shaguar in Team NoA . He later joined Team 3D . 2007 won Benger the Championship Gaming Series in Counter-Strike: Source with a prize money of 50,000 US dollars . In total, he earned almost $ 100,000 in prize money with esports.

Benger came to poker through friends and has been playing online since December 2006 . He is represented on the most diverse platforms under different nicknames, that's what he calls himself. a. Flush_Entity on PokerStars , Full Tilt Poker , GriffsT1ts on partypoker and Mad_Martigan on 888poker . His total tournament revenue is over $ 6.5 million. At the end of October 2011, he was number one for the first time in the PocketFives ranking, which determines the most successful online tournament players in the world, and was able to hold this position for 6 weeks. He was at the top of the ranking for a total of 32 weeks . Since 2011, Benger has also been taking part in renowned live tournaments .

Benger was successful for the first time in July 2011 at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and cashed in a tournament in the No Limit Hold'em variant . At the end of April 2012, he finished 43rd at the main event of the European Poker Tour (EPT) in Monte-Carlo and received prize money of 25,000 euros . At the 2012 WSOP , Benger made the money for the first time in the main event and finished in 304th place out of 6,598 players for just under 40,000 US dollars. At the end of April 2013, Benger won the high-roller re-entry at the EPT in Berlin with a prize of 429,000 euros. At the 2014 WSOP , he cashed again in the main event and stayed in the event until the fourth day of the tournament. He received over $ 70,000 for his 90th place. In October 2014, Benger played Shark Cage on the first season of the PokerStars show , where he sat at a table with Jonathan Duhamel , Fatima Moreira de Melo , Igor Kurganow , Jeremy Roenick and Zuzana Borošová . Benger won the season and received a prize of one million US dollars for it. At the Main Event of the World Series of Poker 2016 , he reached the final table with the seventh largest chip stack . Already on the seventh day of the tournament, a hand caused a sensation in which Benger took the polarizing Briton William Kassouf out of the tournament with aces against kings. At the final table, Benger finished in seventh place and received prize money of around 1.25 million US dollars. At the beginning of April 2017 he won the main event of the Irish Poker Open in Dublin with a prize money of 200,000 euros. In January 2019, Benger reached the fourth day of the tournament at the PokerStars Players Championship in the Bahamas , where he was eliminated in 14th place, worth around 230,000 US dollars.

In total, Benger earned almost $ 4.5 million in poker in live tournaments. From April to December 2016 , he also acted as a commentator alongside Sam Grafton in the Global Poker League .
