David "Doc" Sands (born 1984 or 1985 in Bozeman , Montana ) is a professional American poker player .

Personal

Sands grew up in his native Bozeman and later attended Hamilton College. He is in a relationship with the poker player Erika Moutinho, whom he met in Australia in 2005. The couple got engaged in 2011 and married in March 2013. The two are parents of a daughter and live in Palo Alto .

Poker career

Sands played online under the nicknames SexSeen ( PokerStars ) , Doc Sands ( Full Tilt Poker ) and dsands25 ( UltimateBet ) from September 2006 to the end of 2013 . It has tournament revenues of over three million US dollars and was at the top of the PocketFives ranking, which lists the most successful online poker tournament players worldwide, for six consecutive weeks in early 2010 . Since 2006 he has also participated in renowned live tournaments .

Sands was successful for the first time in June 2006 at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and cashed in a tournament of the No Limit Hold'em variant . At the beginning of May 2011 he finished fourth in the High Roller of the European Poker Tour (EPT) in Madrid and received prize money of 135,000 euros . In 2011 , Sands made it to a WSOP final table for the first time, finishing third in a Pot Limit Omaha event for over $ 100,000. Around a month later, he and his girlfriend Erika Moutinho reached the seventh day of the tournament at the WSOP main event . There Sands was eliminated in 30th place and Moutinho was 29th as the best woman, for which both received prize money of almost $ 250,000 each. In mid-December 2011, Sands finished second behind Jason Mercier for more than $ 650,000 at the super high roller event as part of the Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic at the Hotel Bellagio in Las Vegas . At the end of February 2012, he also took second place at the Main Event of the World Poker Tour (WPT) in Los Angeles and received prize money of over $ 800,000. At the beginning of January 2013, Sands also finished second behind Scott Seiver at the EPT Super High Roller in the Bahamas for his highest prize money to date of around $ 1.2 million. In May 2013, Sands won the Super High Roller of the WPT World Championship at Bellagio with a prize of around one million dollars. In mid-November 2014, he also won the fifth Aria Super High Roller at the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas and received over $ 550,000. At the 2015 WSOP , Sands finished 14th in the most expensive event on the tournament schedule, the $ 111,111 High Roller for One Drop , for just under $ 300,000. His last live cash placement to date was in August 2017.
