Paul Volpe (* 1981 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is a professional American poker player . The former online poker - world number one is three-time bracelet winner of the World Series of Poker and is nicknamed The Main Event .

From April 2009 to May 2016, Volpe played online under the nicknames paulgees81 ( PokerStars , Full Tilt Poker , UltimateBet and partypoker ) , paulgees822 (Carbon Poker and Absolute Poker) and paulgees (Lock Poker) . He has teamed up with tournament poker over 5.5 million US dollars earned. For 3 weeks from March 23 to April 13, 2011, he was number one in the PocketFives ranking, which lists the most successful online tournament players in the world.

At the beginning of June 2009 , Volpe was successful for the first time at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and cashed in a tournament in the No Limit Hold'em variant . At the 2011 WSOP , he made the money a total of six times, with his biggest win for 192nd place in the main event of almost $ 50,000. In 2012 , he finished 20th in the Main Event for nearly $ 300,000, earning him the nickname The Main Event . Two years later, Volpe won the Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship at the 2018 WSOP and received his third bracelet in addition to the prize money of more than $ 400,000. A month later, he finished second to Shaun Deeb in the Big Blind Antes No-Limit Hold'em 6-Handed Championship for over $ 500,000 in prize money.
