Shawn Buchanan (born July 6, 1982 in Vancouver , British Columbia ) is a professional Canadian poker player . He won a title each at the World Series of Poker and the World Poker Tour .

Buchanan worked as a landscaper before starting poker . He lives in Abbotsford .

Poker career

Buchanan plays online under the nicknames buck21 ( PokerStars ) and Shawn Buchanan ( Full Tilt Poker ) . By May 2018, he made a profit of almost 700,000 US dollars on these platforms with cash games . On PokerStars , he won a World Championship of Online Poker tournament in 2007 , a title each in the Spring Championship of Online Poker in 2012 and 2013, and an event in the Turbo Championship of Online Poker in 2014 , making him the first player to win each of these tournament series won. Since 2004 Buchanan has also taken part in renowned live tournaments .

In May 2004 Buchanan was successful for the first time at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Binion's Horseshoe in Las Vegas and came in the money in a tournament of the No Limit Hold'em variant . At the main event of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventures (PCA) in the Bahamas at the beginning of January 2005, he finished 13th, endowed with over 25,000 US dollars. In June 2007, Buchanan prevailed at the main event of the World Poker Tour at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas and secured a prize of almost 770,000 US dollars. In mid-June 2008 he reached his first final table at the WSOP, which is now being played at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino, and finished fourth for around US $ 220,000. In mid-December 2009, he finished fourth at the WPT Main Event at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, which was paid for with more than $ 330,000. Due to two further final tables in October 2011 at the World Series of Poker Europe in Cannes , for which he received more than 400,000 euros , Buchanan took fourth place in the ranking of the WSOP Player of the Year . In mid-January 2012, he won the PCA High Roller and secured over $ 200,000 through a deal with two other players. In December 2012, he finished runner-up in the WPT Main Event at the Bellagio and received just under $ 750,000. At the 2015 WSOP , Buchanan finished eighth in the Poker Player's Championship , for which he received around $ 140,000. In January 2018, he also took second place in the PCA Main Event and secured more than 670,000 US dollars. At the 2019 WSOP , he won an online tournament under the nickname bucky21 and secured a bracelet and a prize of more than 220,000 US dollars.

In total, Buchanan has earned just under seven million US dollars with poker in live tournaments.
