The Binion's Horseshoe is a casino in Las Vegas . It's part of the Fremont Street Experience . Since taking over the MTR Gaming Group in 2005, it has been called Binion's Gambling Hall and Hotel. The current owner is TLC Casino Enterprises . The casino was named after its builder Benny Binion and houses various restaurants. As a hotel, it recently had 365 rooms and a rooftop swimming pool.

The Horseshoe trademark was used for the various casinos that are and were owned by the Binion Dynasty. The other Horseshoe casinos were owned by Jack Binion .

history

In 1951, Benny Binion bought the Eldorado Club and the Apache Hotel , merged them and opened the complex as Binion's Horseshoe.

It was the first casino in Las Vegas to introduce carpet as flooring on a large scale and offer players free drinks regardless of the stake.

Binion was playing the highest stakes available at the gaming tables at the time.

Benny spent his life in prison between 1953 and 1957 for tax evasion . The repayments had amounted to $ 5 million , so he had to sell his casino shares. In 1964, the Binions family bought back the shares.

After various family problems, Jack Binion was able to start the World Series of Poker ( WSOP ). The first world championships in poker were held in 1970 in Horseshoe .

In 1988 the Mint Hotel , which was located on the west side of the Horseshoe, was bought. With this acquisition, the first exclusive poker room was created in the Horseshoe.

In 1998, Becky Behnen took control of the Horseshoe after a hostile takeover . Jack Binion secured a 1% stake in the casino so he could keep his Nevada gaming license and pursue other casino activities. Behnen made sweeping cost savings that were extremely unpopular with players. Among other things, the distribution of the entry fee at the World Series of Poker has been changed. This also put the dealers at a disadvantage. She also closed a popular restaurant in which Benny Binion used a table as an office.

Due to dodgy balance sheets and a lack of money and chips in the casino vault, the license was withdrawn by Nevada Gaming Control on January 9, 2004 . A day later the casino had to close its doors.

In March 2004, Harrah's Entertainment was able to take over Binion's Horseshoe and shortly thereafter sold it to the MTR Gaming Group . However, Harrah's secured the rights to the Horseshoe brand name and the World Series of Poker .

In April 2004 the legendary hotel and casino opened again. It was renovated in a contemporary way, but in the style that Benny Binion had it built in the mid-20th century.

In 2008 Binion's was sold to TLC Casino Enterprises. In December 2009 it stopped operating the hotel; the casino and restaurants will continue to operate.
