The Fremont Street Experience (FSE) is an attraction in Downtown Las Vegas , Nevada . The FSE covers the five westernmost blocks of Fremont Street .

It is a barrel roof that is 27 meters (90 feet ) high at its highest point and approximately 450 meters (1500 feet) long. It was the first project by architect Jon Jerde , who later designed various other projects on the Las Vegas Strip . The underside of the barrel roof forms an LED display board , created by LG , on which shows are presented in the dark. Before the start of each of these shows, the lights at the adjacent casinos are switched off and a cross street that crosses the FSE is blocked. There are also two stages on which free concerts can take place.

history

The Fremont Street can look back on a long history. In 1925 , for example, the first gaming license in Nevada was awarded to the Northern Club . The Golden Nugget was the first hotel to be designed as a casino from the start.

The FSE was designed in the 1990s with the aim of attracting more visitors to the downtown area. The FSE itself is a joint project between various casinos.

Construction began on September 7, 1994 and lasted until February 1995. Part of the Vegas Vic cowboy hat , a well-known landmark in Las Vegas, had to be removed. The first performance was with the Nevada Symphony Orchestra . The first show was on December 31, 1995. In June 2004, the original display panel was replaced with a new one that can display 16.7 million colors.

The technology

The roof is supported by 16 pillars, each weighing around 11,800 kg (26,000 pounds). 12.5 million LEDs are attached to the dome . There are also 220 loudspeakers that generate a total output of 550,000 watts.
