Paullus Aemilius Lepidus (perhaps Lucius Aemilius Lepidus Paullus ; † 13 BC) was a senator of the late Roman Republic and the early Imperial period .

Career

Lepidus was the son of Lucius Aemilius Lepidus Paullus , consul in 50 BC. BC, and thus nephew of the triumvir Marcus Aemilius Lepidus . Lepidus' first marriage to Sempronia Atratina, daughter of Lucius Sempronius Atratinus , was consul in 34 BC. BC, married, second marriage to Cornelia, daughter of Scribonia . From this marriage came Lucius Aemilius Paullus and Marcus Aemilius Lepidus , consuls in AD 1 and 6 respectively, as well as the daughter Aemilia Lepida , who married Marcus Iunius Silanus , who married the consul of AD 15 after the death of Scribonia Lepidus Claudia Marcella the Younger .

Lepidus began his career as triumvir monetalis at an unknown time. Until his proscription in 43 BC. No further evidence has come down to us. Lepidus subjugated Crete for the murderers of Caesar, Marcus Junius Brutus and Gaius Cassius Longinus . After converting to Octavian , Lepidus fought against Sextus Pompey . Perhaps that is why Lepidus became a suffect consul in 34 . As consul, he completed the new construction of the Basilica Aemilia, which his father had begun .

For the following time, the sources are again silent about him. Lepidus was proconsul; it is unclear, however, whether he was governor in Asia or in Macedonia . An exact dating is also not possible. The only thing that is certain is that in 22 B.C. BC with Lucius Munatius Plancus held the censorship . You were the last pair of censors elected. According to Velleius Paterculus , Lepidus was a complete wrong choice for this office.
