Marcus Valerius Messalla Appianus

Marcus Valerius Messalla ( Barbatus ?) Appianus († 12 BC ) was a Roman politician and senator .

Messalla's biological father was Appius Claudius Pulcher , consul in 38 BC. BC Marcus Valerius Messalla, who in 32 BC Was consul, is probably his adoptive father . Around 14 BC Messalla married Claudia Marcella the younger , daughter of Octavia Minor and Gaius Claudius Marcellus , with whom he had a son, Marcus Valerius Messala Barbatus , the father of Valeria Messalina , the wife of Emperor Claudius . Messalla died during his consulate in 12 BC. In the year in which his daughter Claudia Pulchra , who later became the wife of Publius Quinctilius Varus , was born. Further details of his political career are not known.
