The street has been around since 1905 , the same year the city was founded. It was named after the explorer and politician John C. Frémont , who crossed the Las Vegas Valley on an expedition in 1844 .

For a long time, Fremont Street was the center of the entertainment industry in Las Vegas. It was only with the construction of the so-called megaresorts in the early 1990s that tourist interest shifted to Las Vegas Boulevard. The Fremont Street Experience attraction, completed in 1995, is one of the many attractiveness measures in the face of tourist exodus to the Strip .
