David Patrick Peters (born April 16, 1987 in Toledo , Ohio ) is a professional American poker player .

Peters is considered to be one of the best tournament players in the world. He has earned more than $ 33.5 million in live poker tournaments , making him the seventh most successful poker player by tournament prize money . The American won the high roller of the European Poker Tour in 2015 , is a two-time bracelet winner of the World Series of Poker and has achieved numerous other high-value tournament results. He secured 10 wins in tournaments at the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas , where he won the US Poker Open Championship in 2019 . In 2016 he was named Player of the Year by the Global Poker Index and Card Player Magazine . From January 11th to 17th, 2017, he was at the top of the poker world rankings for a week for the first time . After being briefly ousted by Nick Petrangelo , Peters was again at the top for 6 weeks from February 22 to April 4, 2017 .

Peters is from Toledo , Ohio, USA . He attended the local high school and then went on to study economics at Bowling Green State University , but did not graduate from the stage. Peters lives in Las Vegas .

Poker career

Career

2004–2009: beginnings and first tournament victories

Peters taught himself to play poker in 2004 and started playing online poker when he was 18 . He built his first bankroll of $ 600 through freerolls , with which he initially played sit and gos and later switched to tournament poker . He uses the nickname dpeters17 on the PokerStars platform and played as Davidp18 on Full Tilt Poker . In addition, Peters uses his real name at GGPoker . Peters achieved his first live cash placement in Barcelona in early December 2006 , when he finished seventh in an Ongame Network Poker Classic tournament, worth over $ 55,000. 2010–2014: Final tables at the WSOP and WPT

2015–2016: EPT High Roller win, first bracelet and Player of the Year awards
