David "The Dragon" Pham (born February 10, 1967 in South Vietnam ) is a professional Vietnamese - American poker player . He is three-time bracelet winner of the World Series of Poker .
Personal
Pham fled Vietnam to the United States at the age of 17. He traveled for several weeks with a boat and 145 other refugees. Only 46 of them survived the escape. Pham lives in Bell Gardens , California and has four children.
Poker career
Career
Pham is a cousin of old poker master Men Nguyen . After Nguyen's early success, he opened a cleaning company where Pham worked. Like many other Nguyen employees, Pham took poker lessons from The Master. Then he began to play bigger tournaments. In 2000 and 2007, Pham was named Card Player Player of the Year . At the 2001 World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas , Pham won his first bracelet at the $ 2000 SHOE. This year, he also made it into the main event for the first time . He won a side tournament at the LA Poker Classics in Los Angeles in 2003. In the $ 1500 rebuy limit hold'em , Pham secured the grand prize of more than $ 450,000 . In December 2004, he again won a WPT fringe tournament and $ 414,000. He defeated Alan Goehring heads-up at the event at the Bellagio . At the 2006 WSOP , Pham won his second bracelet in the $ 2,000 Texas Hold'em Shootout . In June 2017 , he secured his third bracelet and almost $ 400,000 in prize money in a $ 1,500 no-limit hold'em . In March 2018, Pham first won the Wynn Spring Classic Championship and then the WSOP circuit in Los Angeles within two weeks for prize money of almost $ 500,000.
