Men "The Master" Nguyen (* 1954 in Phan Thiết ) is a professional Vietnamese - American poker player . He is a seven-time bracelet winner of the World Series of Poker .
Personal
In 1978 Nguyen fled the communist regime of Vietnam to Malaysia . He applied for political asylum in the United States, moved to Los Angeles, and became an American citizen in 1986.
Poker career
Career
He first came to Las Vegas in 1984 and learned to play poker there. It took him three years to win his first tournament in 1987. With his profits he opened a dry cleaning business and a furniture store. He knew some Vietnamese in Las Vegas through his business. David "The Dragon" Pham and Minh Nguyen fell into his care and taught them to play poker.
Nguyen completed 120 tournaments in the prize categories between 2000 and 2004 alone and won more than 75 tournaments in his career. He is known for sharing all of his knowledge of poker. In return, he is awarded a portion of the prize money his students win. One of his students gave him the nickname "The Master" in 1991, which he still bears today. Nguyen won the Card Player Magazine Player of the Year Award in 1997, 2001, 2003 and 2005 and is one of the most feared cash game and tournament players in the world. He is also known for forgetting his manners at the poker table . Nguyen's greatest achievements include winning seven bracelets at the World Series of Poker , four tournament wins at WSOP circuit tournaments, and the title of United States Poker Champion in 2001.
