Nicholas Vincent "Nick" Petrangelo (born January 2, 1987 in Feeding Hills , Massachusetts ) is a professional American poker player .

Petrangelo has earned almost $ 17.5 million in poker in live tournaments . He is two-time bracelet winner of the World Series of Poker and achieved many other victories in Super High Roller -Events, including 2,017 in the A $ 100,000 Challenge the Aussie Millions Poker Championship . From mid-January 2017 he was at the top of the poker world rankings for 5 weeks . From April 5 to August 22, 2017, he will lead them again for 20 weeks in a row.

Personal

Petrangelo played hockey from childhood and made it into Division III at college. After several concussions , he ended his career as a precaution. He graduated from Skidmore College, a private college in New York , with a degree in finance . After the financial crisis in 2008, Petrangelo couldn't find a job and decided to make his living playing poker. He lives in Feeding Hills , Massachusetts .

Career

Petrangelo plays on the online poker platform PokerStars under the nickname caecilius and uses the name canofcorn22 at Full Tilt Poker . In December 2012, he collected the most points worldwide in the Pocket Fives ranking, which lists the most successful online tournament players; In 2013 it was temporarily among the top 10 in the world in the Pocket Fives ranking. On PokerStars , Petrangelo won the high-roller event of the World Championship of Online Poker in September 2017 with a prize of around 625,000 US dollars . Since 2009 he has also been taking part in renowned live tournaments .

Petrangelo was successful for the first time at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas in mid-June 2009 and cashed in a tournament in the No Limit Hold'em variant . At the beginning of 2015 he won a tournament as part of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventures (PCA) in the Bahamas with a prize money of more than 100,000 US dollars. A few days later, he reached the final table at the PCA's high roller event and finished the tournament in sixth place for an additional $ 300,000. At the 2015 WSOP , Petrangelo won a shootout event and thus a bracelet and around 200,000 US dollars in prize money. Petrangelo secured his highest prize money to date in mid-December 2015 when he took second place behind Fedor Holz at the Alpha8 of the World Poker Tour in the Hotel Bellagio in Las Vegas and received over one million US dollars for it. In mid-January 2017, he reached the final table at the high roller event of the first PokerStars Championship in the Bahamas and finished the tournament in second place for almost $ 750,000. Just two weeks later won Petr Angelo the A $ 100,000 Challenge the Aussie Millions Poker Championship in Melbourne with a prize money of 882,000 Australian dollars . At the end of April 2018, he finished second behind Steve O'Dwyer on a high roller on the European Poker Tour in Monte-Carlo for just under 470,000 euros. In May 2018, Petrangelo finished sixth at the Super High Roller Bowl at the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas and received $ 900,000 in prize money. A few days later, he won the $ 100,000 high roller event of the 2018 WSOP , securing his second bracelet and a prize of almost $ 3 million. Petrangelo also made the final table at the series' high roller event, which cost $ 50,000, and came in third for around $ 720,000 in prize money.
