Fatima Moreira de Melo (born July 4, 1978 in Rotterdam ) is a former Dutch hockey player and today's presenter and poker player .

Education and personal life

Moreira de Melo was born in Rotterdam as the daughter of a Portuguese and a Dutch woman. In 2006 she completed a law degree . In 2012 she took part in the reality show Expeditie Robinson together with twin brothers Christophe and Matthias De Meulder . Moreira de Melo lives in Rotterdam.

Hockey career

Career

Moreira de Melo started playing hockey at Tempo '34 Charlois at the age of six . At the age of twelve, she made her debut in the Dutch U-14 national team. From 1990 to 1993 she was active for Victoria Kralingen , after which she moved to HGC Wassenaar . With Wassenaar, Moreira de Melo won the Dutch championship twice. From 2000 to 2008 she played for HC Rotterdam .

Moreover, Moreira de Melo played from 1997 to 2011 a total of 247 times for the Dutch national team and won with it in 2006 , the World Cup and in 1999 , 2003 and 2005 the European Championship . However, her biggest success is winning the gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing after already in the year 2000 in Sydney the bronze medal, and in 2004 in Athens to win the silver medal.

In 2006, Moreira de Melo was named Rotterdam's Sportswoman of the Year.

Moreira de Melo was part of Team PokerStars for around 10 years until the beginning of 2020 and was therefore sponsored by PokerStars . She plays online under the nickname FatimaDeMelo . Moreira de Melo has been taking part in international live poker tournaments regularly since 2009 .

In June 2010 she was the first time in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas successfully and placed at three tournaments variant No-Limit Hold'em in cash. She won her highest cash prize to date in October 2013 at the UK & Ireland Poker Tour Main Event on the Isle of Man for $ 95,000 , in which she finished second. At the 2015 WSOP , she cashed in the main event for the first time , finishing in 286th place for more than $ 30,000 in prize money. A year later she made the money twice at the 2016 WSOP , including a. at the newly held tag team event, where she and the Spaniard Leo Margets took 33rd place. As part of the PokerStars Championship in the Bahamas , Moreira de Melo secured her first win at a prestigious live tournament in the women's event in January 2017 and received around $ 5,500 in bonuses.

In total, Moreira de Melo has earned more than $ 550,000 in poker in live tournaments.
