The HC Rotterdam was founded on 16 September 1925 and with 2,342 members (2006) is the largest hockey club of the Netherlands , at the same time the most successful of the five Rotterdam club. The club plays in white jerseys, green shorts or skirts and green socks.

The men's team rose again in 2005 to the Hoofd class and reached the play-offs of the best four teams in the 2006/2007 season. In the semi-final series against the eventual champions HC Bloemendaal , the HCR only failed in the 7-meter shooting in the third and decisive game, but qualified for the 2007/2008 Euro Hockey League . In 2013 Rotterdam became Dutch field hockey champions for the first time. The women have been in the top Dutch league without interruption since the 1990/1991 season and placed fifth in the 2007/2008 season.

The spacious club complex has three water-sprinkled and four sand-filled artificial turf pitches. The main square has a covered main stand with around 2500 seats and an opposite stand with around 800 seats. Since the move in summer 2001, the site has been located on Hazelaarweg in the north of Rotterdam, where the club hosted the Champions Trophy in 2001 and the Junior World Championships in 2005, and where VOC Rotterdam also plays its home games.
