The club from near Haarlem was founded in 1895 as the Hockey and Bandy Club "Haarlem & Omstreken" (Hockey and Bandy Club Harlem and the surrounding area). Before the association was established in its current form and under its current name, several predecessor associations existed. For example: Bloemendaalsche Hockey Club "Bloemendaal" (1907), Haarlemsche Hockey Vereeniging "De Musschen" (1907), Haarlemsche Dames Hockey Club "HDHC" and later "BDHC" (1914), Musschen-Haarlem-Combinatie "MHC" (1915 ) and Bloemendaal-Musschen-Haarlem-Combinatie "BMHC" (1936). Today's HC Bloemendaal has existed since 1973 after the merger of "BDHC" and "BMHC".
Bloemendaal is an internationally known club, at least in the field of men's hockey, whose greatest success was winning the European Cup in 1987 and 2001. The 1st women's team has been commuting between the 1st Dutch league, the Hoofdklasse (hockey) , and the 2nd league (transition class) for years . The first men, however, intervene every year in the fight for the national title in the Nederlandse hoofdklasse . In the 2005 season, the team of coach Michel van den Heuvel reached the final series best-of-three, but lost it against Oranje Zwart. In 2006 Bloemendaal won the play-offs of the national championship against the team of the Amsterdamsche Hockey & Bandy Club. For the 2007 season, the German national players Christopher Zeller and Philipp Zeller moved to HC Bloemendaal as new hockey world champions.
Bloemendaal suffered from a lack of space for years until three new artificial turf fields could be laid out in 2004. The club currently has a water- blasted artificial turf and four sand-filled pitches.
