Cannock is a town in England in Staffordshire and is located just north of the conurbation of the West Midlands . Within Staffordshire, Cannock is the administrative seat of the district of Cannock Chase , a scenic region. Cannock itself has a population of around 28,000.

Cannock is located on the M6 Toll , which is subject to a toll , as well as on the A 469, the A34 and north of the A5 . The town has a train station on the Chase Line Stafford - Walsall . Cannock is bordered by the parishes of Hednesford, Rugeley, Great Wyrley, and Burntwood.

The name of the place is derived from the old English cnocc , which means something like small hill . The place also appears as Chenet in the Domesday Book .

The place remained a small rural community until industrialization, but then quickly rose to become a mining town. Even after the Second World War there was another increase in population, as Cannock was used as a commuter community for the greater Birmingham area - the city can be reached by train in 40 minutes.

Cannock is the seat of the automotive company Reliant .

Notable personalities are: The football players Stan Collymore and Steve Bull , alongside Richard Gosling (allegedly the strongest man in Great Britain), Mel Galley , who was a musician with Whitesnake and Trapeze , and Glenn Hughes from Deep Purple . The American pop singer Tiffany , who married a Cannock businessman, lives in Cannock today . Furthermore, Chris Overton , who attracted attention as a film actor - but became world famous through his Oscar award in 2018, lives in Cannock.
