biography

Galley gained his first experience in the band Finders Keepers . Mel Galley founded Trapeze in 1969 with Glenn Hughes , Dave Holland , John Jones and Terry Rowley. Even after Hughes switched to Deep Purple , Galley remained loyal to the band, which suffered from constant line-up changes, until 1979.

In 1982 Galley Whitesnake joined and played on her album Saints & Sinners and the 1984 album Slide It In , and in 1983 he also appeared on Cozy Powell's solo album Octopuss . During the Whitesnake tour in Germany there was an accident and the guitarist injured his arm. Treatment failed. The nerve damage was so severe that it was feared that he would have to give up playing the guitar. A special wire mesh with the nickname "The Claw" allowed him to continue his career.

In 1984 Galley founded the Phenomena project with his brother, music producer Tom Galley , and Wilfried F. Rimensberger , which released a total of six albums by 2012. He participated in four albums, most recently in 2006 Psychofantasy . Under Rimensberger's increased influence, Phenomena developed into an all-star project and has since gathered numerous hard rock greats , such as Cozy Powell , Brian May , Kyōji Yamamoto , John Wetton and Scott Gorham .

He also founded MGM (for Murray Galley Marsden) in 1986 with the two ex-Whitesnake members Bernie Marsden and Neil Murray . The band played live occasionally but was unable to record an album.

1991 there was a reunion of Trapeze. Dave Holland, who had meanwhile become a star with Judas Priest , Glenn Hughes, Galley and Geoff Downes , the keyboardist and singer from Asia , formed the reformed band. In addition to some gigs, a live album was also released. Then Galley retired from the music business.

In 2007, Galley unmasked a con man who had passed himself off as Mel Galley for ten years and had signed albums, given interviews and taken photo opportunities.

On 7 February 2008 Galley published a message on his MySpace - Blog that he incurable esophageal cancer was ill. He succumbed to the disease on July 1, 2008.
