HGC Wassenaar
The HOC Gazellen Combinatie , HGC for short , is a hockey club from Wassenaar in the Netherlands that was founded on September 22, 1906 . The club was created through a merger of the two clubs HOC and Gazellen . With 912 members, the club is one of the larger hockey clubs in The Hague region . Local competitors are the Haagsche Delftsche Mix (HDM), the HC Klein Zwitserland and the smaller HDS.
Both women and men played for years in the highest Dutch field hockey league, the Hoofdklasse , but in 2005 the women were relegated to the second-class transition class. The men won their last national championship title in 1996 under their coach Maurits Hendriks in the final play-offs against HC Bloemendaal , against which the HGC also played in the finals in the 2006–2007 season, but after two defeats (2: 3 , 1: 2) had to come to terms with the runner-up title, which however entitles them to participate in the newly created Euro Hockey League . A year later, the women won their last championship title in 1997.
The HGC facility is located in the De Roggewoning sports complex on Buurtweg in Wassenaar, where there is a water-blasted artificial turf and two sand-filled artificial turf pitches.
