Hockey World Championship

Hockey - World Championships are World Championships, to be played on the field and in the hall. World championships in field hockey have existed since 1971.

For women , both the IFWHA (International Federation of Women's Hockey Associations) and the FIH (Fédération Internationale de Hockey) hosted world championships until the two associations merged in 1982 to form today's FIH . Although different nations - including Germany - took part in the World Cup tournaments of both associations, the three IFWHA tournaments were not included in the official count of the FIH.

The men's World Cup tournaments initially took place every two years, and since 1978 they have been held every four years - between the Olympic Games. Since 1986 the women have also played in this rhythm.

Indoor hockey world championships have been held for women and men since 2003.

The last women's and men's hockey world championships took place together in 2014 in The Hague , the Netherlands . The last indoor hockey world championship (women and men) was held in 2018 in the Max-Schmeling-Halle in Berlin .
