The Main Event of the World Series of Poker 2016 was the main tournament of the 47th edition of the Poker World Championship in Las Vegas .

Tournament structure

The registration for the main tournament of the World Series of Poker in the No Limit Hold'em variant was spread over the three days from July 9th to 11th, 2016. Then the game was played until the seventh day of the tournament on July 18, after which only nine players remained. The final table was played from October 30, 2016. The entire tournament will be played at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas . The total of 6737 participants had to pay a buy-in of 10,000 US dollars each, and there are 1011 paid places for them. As in 2012 , the best woman was the French Gaëlle Baumann , who finished 102nd for just under 50,000 dollars.

The US television channel ESPN broadcast summaries in a total of 14 episodes, commented on by Norman Chad and Lon McEachern and moderated by Kara Scott . The British William Kassouf came to the fore, who polarized with his style of play and made headlines. The final table was broadcast live and exclusively on ESPN. From the end of December 2016 to the beginning of February 2017, the ESPN episodes with commentary by Michael Körner were also broadcast on the German TV channel Sport1 .
