Norman Chad
Norman A. Chad (born August 17, 1958 in Washington, DC ) is an American television commentator and poker player .
Life
Training and publications
Chad was born in 1958 to Seymour and Perla Chad in Washington, DC and grew up in Silver Spring , Maryland . He attended Northwood High School until 1976, where he worked as a sports editor for the school newspaper. Chad then studied at the University of Maryland at College Park and earned a degree in American Studies . After graduating, he worked as a stand-up comedian for a while . He also wrote reports for various sports newspapers, u. a. The Sports Illustrated , as well as scripts for the television series Coach and Arli $$ . In 1993, Chad published Hold On, Honey, I'll Take You to the Hospital at Halftime: Confessions of a TV Sports Junkie . He is third married and lives in Los Angeles .
Commentator for ESPN
Chad has been commenting on the Main Event of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas alongside Lon McEachern for ESPN since 2003 . The words he used after poker master Chris Moneymaker's victory in May 2003 are considered one of the most famous poker quotes:
"This is beyond fairytale - it's inconceivable."
Since 2011 he and McEachern have been reinforced by Kara Scott as moderators. Chad is controversial among advanced players due to a lack of poker knowledge and repetitive phrases. At the end of February 2018, he and McEachern received the Award for Lifetime Achievement in Poker at the American Poker Awards in Los Angeles .

Chad himself has occasionally taken part in prestigious live tournaments since 2009 . His favorite poker variant is Seven Card Stud .
He was first successful at the WSOP in June 2009 . At the 2012 WSOP , he reached a final table in Omaha / Seven Card Stud Hi / Lo and finished sixth, worth over $ 35,000. At the 2014 WSOP , he finished tenth in a tournament in Seven Card Stud Hi / Lo and received just under $ 35,000.
In total, Chad has earned more than $ 85,000 in live poker tournaments.
