The Main Event of the World Series of Poker 2003 was the main tournament of the 34th edition of the Poker World Championship in Las Vegas .
Tournament structure
The main tournament of the World Series of Poker in No Limit Hold'em started on May 19 and ended with the final table on May 23, 2003. The tournament was held at Binion's Horseshoe in Las Vegas . The total of 839 participants had to pay a buy-in of 10,000 US dollars each, and there were 63 paid places for them. As in 2000 , the best woman was Annie Duke , who took 47th place for $ 20,000. No German-speaking player could place in the money.
Final table
The final table was played on May 23, 2003. With Chris Moneymaker, an amateur won the main event, which triggered a poker boom (the so-called Moneymaker boom ) and more than tripled the number of participants in the following year . In the final hand he won with 5 ♦ 4 ♠ against Farha with J ♥ 10 ♦ .
