Geographical location
Nardò Centrale station is part of the Ferrovie del Sud Est (FSE) network, which has belonged to the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane (FS) since August 4, 2016 . This is where the Lecce – Gallipoli and Novoli – Gagliano Leuca lines intersect .
The station is far outside the city of Nardò , which has a second station closer to the city with the Nardò Città station on the Novoli – Nardò Centrale (–Gagliano Leuca) railway line.
history
The Nardò Centrale station went into operation with the opening of the first section of the route from Zollino to Gallipoli through the Strade Ferrate Meridionali on December 14, 1864. The line was extended from here on November 1, 1885 to Gallipoli.
The Ferrovie Salentine , one in Apulia regionally active railway company , built a branch line from its railway Martina Franca-Lecce route from Novoli by Nardo Centrale , which was opened on May 27, 1907th This line was extended to the south and opened to Gagliano Leuca on November 4, 1911 . Since then, four single-track lines have been running towards Nardò Centrale station .
Technical Equipment
The station has four platform tracks , all of which are only accessible at ground level. Additional tracks are available and are currently (2016) partially used to park rotting rolling stock. There is a reception building on high-rise buildings in which a dispatcher is also active. There is also a two-tier engine shed from the steam locomotive era.
business
In Nardò Centrale , on the one hand, trains of line 3 of the FSE cross according to plan , which is operated primarily with railcars of the series Ad 31-45, which correspond to the series ALn 668.1900 and 668.1000 of the FS. On the other hand, trains of line 5 of the FSE cross here as scheduled, which is operated both with old railcars of the Ad 31-45 series and with the newest vehicles of the FSE, railcars of the ATR 220 series. In the case of a double crossing, when the trains of both lines cross at the same time in the station to enable passengers to change trains in all directions, all four platform tracks are occupied.
