Maidstone is the capital of Kent in south-east England , around 50 km from London . The city is the economic and administrative center of the county and borough of Maidstone . history

Under the Charter of 1549 Maidstone was under the administration of the Anglican Church by the Archbishop of Canterbury . However, after the residents of Maidstones rebelled against Queen Maria I in 1554 and supported Thomas Wyatt , the charter was revoked; a new one was granted by Elizabeth I in 1559 .

This was ratified by King James I in 1619 and the coat of arms, which shows a golden lion and a representation of the river, was designed. In 1949, on the occasion of the 400th anniversary, the head of a white horse (it represents the motto of Kent, Invicta ), a golden lion and an iguanodon (a dinosaur) were added to this coat of arms . The latter points to the discovery of fossils of one such dinosaur in 1834, which are now on display in the Natural History Museum in London.

economy

For a long time the agricultural markets, insurance brokers, and a large candy factory were the city's biggest employers. Today, many Maidstone residents commute to London or work in the service sector within the city. Maidstone has a lot of retail space as well as 2 large shopping centers
