Guy Fletcher (born May 24, 1960 in Maidstone , Kent ) is an English musician who is best known for his collaboration with Mark Knopfler . He started his musical career as a keyboardist and is now a multi-instrumentalist.

Life

Guy Fletcher's parents were musicians and had the band The Cameos with his uncle , so he grew up in a musical environment. The first musical influences were the Beatles and Deep Purple . He learned to play keyboards as a teenager in the 1970s . He finished school at the age of 15 and looked for a job in the music business.

He has accompanied Mark Knopfler since 1983 , initially with Dire Straits and until today with Knopfler's solo career.

Guy Fletcher is married to Lourie-Ann and has two children, Max and Leon.

Musician career

He learned to play keyboards in the 1970s . At that time he already had his own band Atlantis .

In 1981, Fletcher toured Avalon as a keyboardist with Roxy Music .

In 1983 he first met Mark Knopfler . The first joint recordings can be found on Knopfler's film soundtrack for Cal . Knopfler then invited him to join his band Dire Straits as the second keyboardist alongside Alan Clark . With this line-up Dire Straits recorded their most successful album " Brothers in Arms " and went on a world tour in 1985/86. Since then, Fletcher can be heard on every album by Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler (including various film soundtracks). He was also involved in Knopfler's side project, the Notting Hillbillies .

In 1994/95 Fletcher toured again with Roxy Music .

During his career he also worked with other musicians such as Jimmy Nail , Tina Turner , Willy DeVille , Chet Atkins , Mick Jagger and Randy Newman .

During his musical career, Fletcher learned to play keyboards , guitar , ukulele , bass and drums . He is also active as a background singer.
