The Caucasian zelkova ( zelkova carpinifolia , Syn. : Zelkova crenata , zelkova ulmoides ) is a plant from the genus of zelkova ( zelkova ) and belongs to the family of elm plants (Ulmaceae).
distribution
The distribution area of the Caucasian Zelkove is in the Caucasus . Main occurrences are in the alluvial forests on the edge of the Caspian Sea. There it forms mixed forests with Platanus orientalis , Quercus castaneifolia and Pterocarya fraxinifolia . In the Talisch Mountains , it rises to altitudes of 1500 meters. In the Alborz Mountains can be found up to an altitude of 1000 meters.
In England the Caucasian zelkove is a park tree. It is seldom grown in Central Europe because it is not completely hardy. It is designed as a bonsai due to its small leaves .

The Caucasian zelkove is a tree that reaches heights of up to 25 meters. The Caucasian zelkove forms root brood . It usually grows with multiple stems with branches pointing upwards. The crown becomes egg-shaped. The bark is initially smooth, gray and beech-like. Later, the bark breaks open scaly and reveals reddish-yellow rings. The roughly serrated leaves are between 2 and 7 centimeters long, with six to twelve pairs of lateral nerves. The tip of the leaf is only drawn out briefly. The leaves are rough on top and hairy on the underside in the area of the nerves.
The fruits are up to 6 millimeters long with four ribs.
