The Caucasian zelkove is a tree that reaches heights of up to 25 meters. The Caucasian zelkove forms root brood . It usually grows with multiple stems with branches pointing upwards. The crown becomes egg-shaped. The bark is initially smooth, gray and beech-like. Later, the bark breaks open scaly and reveals reddish-yellow rings. The roughly serrated leaves are between 2 and 7 centimeters long, with six to twelve pairs of lateral nerves. The tip of the leaf is only drawn out briefly. The leaves are rough on top and hairy on the underside in the area of ​​the nerves.

The fruits are up to 6 millimeters long with four ribs.
