Alan Clark (musician)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alan Clark (born March 5, 1952 in Great Lumley , County Durham ) is a British musician . From 1980 to 1995 he was the keyboardist for the British rock band Dire Straits .

Career

In 1980, Clark joined the band as a keyboard backup for the Dire Straits on-location tour for the Making Movies album . On Love over Gold he was heard for the first time with the Dire Straits on an album. He stayed with the band until their (unofficial) breakup in 1995.

In 1980 Clark was an official member of the Newcastle folk-rock group Lindisfarne and played with the band a. a. at the Knebworth Festival on June 21st. But then he couldn't refuse the offer to join Dire Straits. On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the death of Alan Hull , the singer and songwriter of the group Lindisfarne, there was a “Memorial Concert” in Newcastle Cityhall in 2005, in which Clark participated as a member of a Lindisfarne / Newcastle Allstar Band .

In February 2008, Clark was again a guest in Newcastle for the benefit concert "Sunday for Sammy". Originally, Mark Knopfler was supposed to appear there, but an injury recently suffered (fish hook in the finger) prevented this. Alan Clark also played the keyboards for many film soundtracks by Dire Straits head Mark Knopfler (e.g. for the film Local Hero ). He also worked with Knopfler's brother David and played on his solo albums. In 2010 he accompanied Marius Müller-Westernhagen on his Williamsburg tour and can therefore be heard on the live album Hottentottenmusik , published in 2011 .
