Love over Gold is the fourth studio album by the British rock band Dire Straits . It was recorded in 1982 and released in September of the same year.
production
The studio recordings for the album were made between March 8 and June 11, 1982 at Power Station Studios in New York. Knopfler produced the album single-handedly, which also established the long-term collaboration with sound engineer Neil Dorfsman. During the recording, Knopfler used several different guitars, including four Stratocaster models built by Schecter Guitar Research , a Schecter Telecaster and an acoustic Ovation guitar for the titles Private Investigations and Love over Gold. An Erlewine Automatic is used on Industrial Disease and a National Steel guitar from 1937 on Telegraph Road .
Due to the growing success, the band was no longer “in dire straits” (English: “in financial difficulties”). The most famous tracks on the album are Private Investigations and Telegraph Road . Originally, Knopfler's composition Private Dancer was also planned for the album. However, Knopfler thought a female voice would be more appropriate and instead passed the song on to Tina Turner . Due to musical differences, the drummer Pick Withers left the band after the recordings.
