Making Movies (English for: "Filmmaking") is the third studio album by the British rock band Dire Straits from 1980.
It is also the book title of a book by Sidney Lumet .
background
After disagreements between Mark Knopfler and his brother David over his role in the band, David Dire Straits had left. The band stayed true to their distinctive sound from the first two albums; nevertheless it continued to develop. Above all, they used elaborate instrumentation based on the 80s mainstream for the first time. The album, the title of which comes from a line of text from the song Skateaway (“she's making movies on location”) , begins with Tunnel of Love , an epic number over eight minutes long. The intro of the song is the "Carousel Waltz" from the musical Carousel by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II . The other popular song, Romeo and Juliet , has been covered several times, e.g. B. from The Killers .
In 1996 (in the US in 2000), Making Movies was re-released as a remastered version along with the band's other albums .
