Dan Abnett (2010)

Dan Abnett (born October 12, 1965 in Rochdale ) is a British writer of science fiction and comic books . As a writer, he is known for his numerous tie-in novels to the tabletop games Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Fantasy and as a longtime writer of comics scenario for Marvel and for 2000 AD .

Life

To 1987 English at college Abnett studied from 1984 St Edmund Hall of the University of Oxford . After graduating, he worked at Marvel UK, where he wrote scripts for the comic book adaptation of The Real Ghostbusters series . Since then he has worked for Marvel on the series Guardians of the Galaxy , Death's Head 2 , Battletide , Knights of Pendragon , The Punisher , War Machine and Annihilation: Nova , as well as on various X-Men series and for the Doctor Who - Comic magazine .

During his work for DC Comics - mainly with Andy Lanning - he created the character Resurrection Man in 1997 together with the draftsman Jackson Guice and Lanning . Starting in 2000, Abnett and Lanning (also known as DnA) wrote the scripts for the Legion Lost series , a restart of the Legion of Super-Heroes , and for its sequels Legion Worlds and The Legion .

For the weekly comic magazine 2000 AD , he and David Millgate conceived the science fiction series Sinister Dexter , which became one of the magazine's best-known and long-lived series. He also wrote scripts for Black Light , Badlands , Atavar , Downlode Tales , Sancho Panzer , Roadkill , Wardog (adaptation of the game of the same name), Kingdom and Brink and worked on Judge Dredd , Durham Red and Rogue Trooper .

In addition to his work as a comic book author, Abnett is one of the most prominent authors at the Black Library , which publishes books on the fictional worlds of Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40,000 . So far he has written dozens of novels and short stories for them, a large part of which has also appeared in German translation, initially in the Warhammer series by Heyne Verlag and since then - partly in new translation - with Black Library. A number of novels from the Warhammer Fantasy world have appeared on Piper Boulevard .

Abnett also wrote Border Princes in 2007 as a novel for the British Doctor Who television series Torchwood (German as Guardian of the Border ) and in 2008 under the title Extinction Event, the novel adaptation for the British television series Primeval - Return of the Primeval Monsters . Together with his wife Nicola Vincent-Abnett (as Nik Vincent), he wrote the two novels Tomb Raider: The Ten Thousand Immortals (2014) and Lara Croft and the Blade of Gwynnever (2016) for the computer game series Tomb Raider .

Abnett lives and works in Rochester , Kent .
