Eddie Chambers (born March 29, 1982 in Pittsburgh , USA ) is an American boxer.

Professional career

Eddie Chambers turned professional in 2000 at the age of 18 after only four years as an amateur , in which he played 85 amateur fights and boxed mostly light heavyweight . He fought mainly in his home state Pennsylvania against initially nameless opponents , which is why he was initially hardly noticed. But Chambers steadfastly boxed one opponent after another and won, often only on points. The years 2004 and 2005 saw a significant increase in the strength of his opponents, he now beat more renowned opponents such as Ross Puritty , Robert Hawkins and Domonic Jenkins and the former World Cup challenger Ed Mahone. He boxed against Jenkins so convincingly that he was signed by Goossen Tutor , a well-known US doctoral company. He is occasionally compared to Chris Byrd , also a rather small boxer for the heavyweight division without great punching power, but with quick hands and good taker skills, who was able to assert himself successfully in the premier class. In contrast to Byrd, Chambers is a left-wing sender . He served Wladimir Klitschko as a sparring partner before his fight against Calvin Brock .

In 2007 he started with a fight against New York's Derek Rossy (15-0), who weighed 115 kg and was also unbeaten, whom he clearly mastered in his hometown with cleared boxing and beat him prematurely. He achieved an advanced title of the IBF and a position in their ranking list. Shortly afterwards, he also beat Dominick Guinn .

In autumn 2007 the IBF Association set up an elimination tournament with four participants, the winner of which could challenge the IBF World Champion. Chambers defeated his compatriot Calvin Brock in this tournament on November 2, 2007 by a narrow point victory and then fought on January 26, 2008 in the final against the also undefeated Russian Alexander Powetkin , who was able to prevail against Chris Byrd . Chambers lost the fight in the Berlin Tempodrom over twelve rounds on points and had to accept his first defeat as a professional boxer.

After three successful development fights and a points victory on March 27, 2009 over the former WBC title holder Samuel Peter , he was able to defeat the Ukrainian Alexander Dimitrenko, who was traded as a heavyweight hope, clearly on points on July 4, 2009 in Hamburg in an elimination match of the WBO association and rose thus becoming the official challenger of IBF and WBO world champion Wladimir Klitschko . The fight with Klitschko finally came on March 20, 2010 in the Düsseldorf ESPRIT arena , Chambers was knocked out with difficulty in the twelfth round after a left hook.

Chambers played his last professional fight on April 30, 2016 against Gerald Washington. He lost unanimously on points. The fight was scheduled for 8 rounds.
