Marcus Rhode (born October 12, 1972 in Russellville , Arkansas ) is an American boxer .

career

Rhode began his professional career in 1995 and is considered a classic " build-up opponent " for more ambitious boxers. Against well-known opponents he had to accept a defeat every time, against those from the Top100 always by knockout. His opponents included Lance Whitaker , Vitali Klitschko , Lamon Brewster , Andrzej Gołota , Lou Savarese , Kevin McBride , Shannon Briggs , Eric Esch , Calvin Brock , Jameel McCline and Riddick Bowe .

On November 3, 1996, he fought Tommy Morrison in Japan after Morrison was previously diagnosed with HIV . Fighting was not allowed in the USA, but in Japan there were no special regulations for HIV in professional boxing at the time. Special rules were agreed for the fight; so, among other things, the fight should be stopped and decided on points if one of the boxers would suffer a bleeding wound in the course of the fight. However, after three knockdowns, Rhode lost in the first lap by a technical knockout . This is the only known professional fight in which an HIV-infected boxer participated.
