Lance Whitaker (born May 29, 1972 in Granada Hills , California ) is a retired American boxer (nickname Mount , later Goofi ). He is very slow and phlegmatic, but grown tall and equipped with punch.

Amateur career

In 1994 he won the US super heavyweight championship. At the Goodwill Games in Saint Petersburg in the same year he won the silver medal and lost in the final to Alexei Lesin , at the Pan American Games in 1995 in Mar del Plata , Argentina , he took third place in this weight class. After he failed in the national qualifications for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , he switched to the professional camp.

Professional career

Lance began his professional career in July 1996. On March 6, 1999, he boxed against Lou Savarese and lost just on points, but Savarese had it on the ground.

A few months later he boxed against Monte Barrett and defeated him controversially on points, his only significant point win. He was able to win against the then undefeated Robert Davis and Oleg Maskayev by knockout and advance into the ranking of the Ring Magazine . Then he boxed against Cliff Couser to whom he inflicted the first knockout defeat.

But in the next fight he was presented as a favorite by Jameel McCline and clearly lost on points. Against Ray Austin he could only box in a draw, in the fight against Friday Ahunanya he was behind on points, but still won happily by dropping out due to an eye injury.

In 2005 he competed in the WBO World Cup eliminator against Luan Krasniqi and was knocked out in the sixth round. He also lost prematurely against Sultan Ibragimov .

Whitaker played his last professional fight on September 11, 2010 in California against the American Franklin Lawrence. He lost by knockout in round 7.

His trainer is Joe Goossen , a former Mike Tyson trainer .
