William "Bill" Walter Boyd (born January 27, 1906 in McNeil , Arkansas , † November 21, 1997 in Las Vegas ) was a professional American poker player . He won four bracelets in the World Series of Poker .

Poker career

Career

Boyd was a five-card stud specialist. He won all four tournaments of the World Series of Poker in this variant in Las Vegas .

In addition, Boyd is also responsible for the rapid spread of the variation Omaha Hold'em . Boyd, who was in the Golden Nugget's card room at the time , first offered the game in 1983, shortly after Robert Turner invented it. In 1981 Boyd was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame . In his honor, he received the first poker hand given at the Hotel Mirage in 1989 .

Boyd died in November 1997 at the age of 91.
