Duane "Dewey" Tomko (born December 31, 1946 in Glassport , Pennsylvania ) is a former American educator and now a professional poker player . He is three-time bracelet winner of the World Series of Poker . As part of the 50th edition of this tournament series, Tomko was named one of the 50 best players in poker history in June 2019 .

Poker career

Career

Tomko started playing poker professionally at the age of 16 to finance his education. He played in bars that had pool tables . Tomko later became a kindergarten teacher , but often played poker all night long and soon realized that card games were more profitable than his main job.

Tomko is the only player to have competed in the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas every year since 1974 . He won three bracelets over the years . He was also runner-up in the Main Event , the series’s main tournament , in both 1982 and 2001 . In 2001 he lost the final hand with the best starting hand consisting of two aces.

Tomko's live tournament revenue is just under $ 5 million . He lives in Winter Haven , is married and has three children.
