Location of Schmalge in Espelkamp

Schmalge has been a district of the town of Espelkamp in the Minden-Lübbecke district since the regional reform that came into force on January 1, 1973 . Before that, he belonged to the then independent municipality oftonsheide . Due to the separation of Ton Heath, which has belonged to the town of Rahden since 1973 , there is no independent association in Schmalge.

An independent school was operated in Schmalge until 1964. Afterwards the students went to the Tonneide elementary school . Since 1973 the students have been going to schools in the city of Espelkamp.

One of the best-known residents of Schmalge was Hermann Kunst , who declared Schmalge to be his second home during his commitment to rebuilding the refugee town of Espelkamp until his death.
