Espelkamp Zentrum is an area of the East Westphalian city of Espelkamp in North Rhine-Westphalia . Espelkamp center has about 15,500 inhabitants and is the largest area of the city of Espelkamp.

Espelkamp Zentrum includes all areas of the city of Espelkamp as it existed before January 1, 1973 and which are not included in the Altgemeinde Espelkamp locality . Espelkamp center includes the more urban areas of the old town of Espelkamp. The mayor is Herbert Klingel (CDU).

history

The map shows the situation in 1896: The area of today's core town of Espelkampf was a large forest area. To make orientation easier, the boundaries of the central urban development of Espelkamp (and Lübbeckes) and today's Mittelland Canal have been supplemented in color.

On April 1, 1910, Espelkamp was spun off from Großendorf and became an independent municipality in the Rahden district . The district Espelkamp-Mittwald is developing rapidly on the remains of an army ammunition plant. When Espelkamp-Mittwald (today Espelkamp Center area) was granted town charter in 1959, the term Alt-Espelkamp or Dorf-Espelkamp became established for the rest of the Espelkamp area. However, the village of Espelkamp and Espelkamp-Mittwald together form the town of Espelkamp in the Rahden district. With 3,756 votes against 234, the population of Espelkamp decided against separating Alt-Espelkamp from the city of Espelkamp in 1960. In 1966 Espelkamp became vacant and was significantly enlarged in the course of the regional reform on January 1, 1973. Since then, Alt-Espelkamp has been part of the city of Espelkamp under the name Altgemeinde Espelkamp (according to the main statute). Espelkamp-Mittwald, which has been called the town of Espelkamp since 1959 to differentiate it from Alt-Espelkamp , has not been listed in the main statute as a separate village with its own mayor since 1973, but is explicitly named as a separate area with the name Espelkamp Center . In parlance, the center and the rest of the villages in Espelkamp are referred to as districts. The term Mittwald is also used instead of Espelkamp Zentrum .
