history

It is not known exactly when the first people settled in Fabbenstedt. But urn finds indicate a settlement in the 1st millennium of our era. There were two urn finds in Fabbenstedt, both of which were dated to the Carolingian period (8th / 9th century). There are different interpretations of the origin of the name Fabbenstedt. One points to the possible first settler named "Fabbe" or "Vabbe". In the middle of the 17th century the name "Vabbenstätte" appears.

From the middle of the 19th century until December 31, 1972, Fabbenstedt was an independent municipality in the Lübbecke district and belonged to the Alswede district . On January 1, 1973 the place was incorporated into Espelkamp.

societies

There is a lively club life in Fabbenstedt. The larger clubs in town include the sports club VfB Fabbenstedt and the shooting club Fabbenstedt. The “Dorfgemeinschaft Fabbenstedt eV” was founded to coordinate the association's activities. It also organizes the Fabbenstedter Heimatabend , which has taken place every November since 1981 .

The two small Fabbenstedt museums are another specialty of Fabbenstedt. The exhibition “Shopping fifty years ago” has existed since around 1999 in an outbuilding of the old Fabbenstedter school, which is now used as a village community center. What used to be part of everyday rural life was rebuilt here: a village shop. There are actually two shops that found their place in the museum room: the colonial goods store Carl Horstmann and the manufactured goods store Wilhelm Brune. Since 2005 there has been the permanent exhibition "Old Fabbenstedter Schule" in a classroom of the school building with school desks, card stands and other furniture as well as certificates, class books, many old photos and other documents from over a hundred years of Fabbenstedter school history.
